Connecting to internet using Nokia 3110c on a computer

This may be joke to some experts, but i think of adding this post also.
It is about how to connect your PC to net using your Nokia 3110c phone.

Here are the steps
  • At first we have to configure the phone for your net usage. To configure it on phone, go to settings>connectivity>Packet data>packet data settings>Edit access point. In this menu, check whether the access point and alias name are correct(If you don't know the access point contact your customer care or search the net). If it is not configured correctly, correct it. Thus the configuration in the phone is complete.
  • The second step is to configure the settings in the computer. Before this you must make sure that your phone is correctly detected by your computer or PC suite and the modem drivers are installed. Click here to know how you can check whether the modem is working correctly or not.
  • Then open Network connection by going to control panel.
  • From the menu bar, click the file menu and click new connection
  • Click 'next' twice and on the screen click" Set up connection manually" and then click 'next'.
  • Select"using dial up modem" and click next
  • Select the modem you want to use(In this case our phones modem). If you have only one modem installed this step may not appear.
  • Type in any isp name . This is for your reference only
  • Type the phone number as *99#  . This is the default number for connecting using phone(Well, I am not so sure ). Click next.
  • If you need a username and password while connecting type it here.( It is not a place of registering. It is generally left blank for phones 'or otherwise contact your customer care)
  • Click next and then finish.
  • Now your dial up connection is ready and you can connect to internet without opening pc suite every time. Just go to start>connect to>"the name you have given for connection" and click dial.
Not connecting ---------check this
  • Go to control panel and click phone and modem options
  • Check if your location and area code is correctly displayed.
  • Click on modems tab
  • Select our modem and then click properties
  • In the appeared window, select the diagnostics tab and click query modem.
  • Check the result (appearing in command-response space above the tab), if it says success, then your modem is correctly installed, if not try reinstalling phones drivers
  • Now click on the advanced tab and delete any the extra initialization command
  • Click ok and try again

How to use Nokia 3110c as a modem by bluetooth without installing pc suite ?

It seems very time consuming to install PC suite on other computers if we want to connect to net immediately.
But if you are using a Bluetooth for your connection it is possible to establish a quick connection.
  • First of all turn on the Bluetooth of both your computer and mobile
  • Double click the Bluetooth icon on your computer at the task bar(IF you can't find such a icon, go to control panel).
  • In the dialog box, click on add services.
  • Do necessary for adding your mobile phone(Click here for guidance)
  • Again in the Bluetooth dialogue box, select your device and click properties.
  • Then click services and turn on "Dial-up Networking (DUN)"
  • Wait for your modem to get installed on your computer.
  • Enjoy the net.
If you have any questions just leave it as a comment .

Error : Cannot Install Java Applications/games using pc suite

Like me you have also encountered problem while installing applications using pc suite saying the phone is being used or busy.
I haven't found any solution for this but I can advice you to get the application installed most of times.
As you connect your phone via pc suite / ovi suite synchronization starts. Its a background process and we don't notice it. We cannot install application during this period. Wait for this to get over. Synchronization details will be displayed on your phone screen when it is complete.

Also, if you have just switch on-ed your device wait for sometime. There are many background process going on mainly music library updating.

Getting or sending application or game from a Nokia Phone

Sending application from a Nokia 3110c is impossible( At least for me' if you disagree please comment the way)
While getting it from a another bluetooth paired phone is possible . Here is the way
  • Turn ON bluetooth on both the devices
  • Open a Bluetooth file exploring software from reciepents side ( I recommend Blue File Transfer v1.36 For Nokia 3110c )
  • Get the jar file from the senders application location (As you will have full access over his phone using this software )

But Sometimes this won't work. It will say, "Invalid Application"

Installing applications and games in Nokia 3110c

This post is about installation of java based mobile phone application on Nokia 3110c.
First of all it depends on where the source file is. Thus application installation can be classified into two groups
  • Getting Software from other phone

    • This will be very hard if the sender is a Nokia phone. The Nokia phones does not support sending of application. This may be to prevent duplication of copyrighted files. But there is always "the other way". Click here to know how to get an application from a nokia phone.
    •  If the sender is not a Nokia Phone, just spot the jar file (Not the installed file, send the installation file. Hope you Know the differences) and send via bluetooth or infrared.
  • Getting  Software from computer

    • Using PC Suite : Either spot your .jar file and open it with pc suite. Easy isn't it. It is not . Sometimes problem ma y cause in this type saying phone is being used. Click here to know more about this error.
    • Using Mass Storage / Data transfer Mode : Copy the .jar file to your memory card. Unplug the data cable and run the application from the phone.
    • Using Bluetooth : Connect phone via bluetooth. Right click the .jar file and click send to > Bluetooth. Problems using Bluetooth Connection-Click here

UCWEB - Why different version based on countries ?

As you have seen while downloading the Ucweb, there are various version for various region.
The application is same but the difference is mainly on following two things.
# Languages
# Regional Preferences
Regional preferences means the UCweb default links will be different for entertainment, social networking, technology,etc...

Downloading UCWEB to PC

For some of those who hate to use phones default browser, I will help them with an alternate way.
Here are the download links for the jar files for intalling via pc suite or by file transfer method.
# International Version(U S)

Nokia 3110c Camera

Its a very late post. I must have discussed about the camera specialties of Nokia 3110c. It has such a wonderful camera.
The Nokia 3110c is equipped with a 1.3 megapixel camera.
But the clarity i am getting from this 1.3 mp is much greater than that of other companies(Except sony ericcson)
Its successor phones by Nokia, says to provide 2 mp camera but each capturing takes much more time. Here are some photos i took which will clearly explain my points.
NB:
  • Maximum resolution(Image size) is 1280 x 1024
  • Average image file size is 300-400kb
